The rapid change in British language was due to classism, not so much us.
Traditionally new linguistic adaptations in English started in the British aristocracy and filtered to lower classes and provincial parts of the Anglosphere over time.
This is why Appalachian English retains so many antiquated features because it's both backwater and lower class.
