This is probably going to be the dumbest question you'll hear all day, so bear with me.Is あら, the kind that onee-sans say in my doujins (あらあら) the exact same thing as あれ? I have some text "あれ?あれ?どうしたの?" would "あら?あら?どうしたの?" be identical in meaning? (Assuming an older lady is saying it.)

If I want to learn Japanese solely for the purpose of being able to watch anime without subtitles, is there a method for learning that focuses only on understanding the spoken language and not the written language? All the resources I've seen assume you want to learn both. I've learned hiragana and katakana but spending a billion hours learning a billion kanji feels like a waste of time for something I don't really plan to use
