Canada is objectively too dependent upon the USA for its economic prosperity to ever become independent of its demands. Literally 40% of Canadian GDP comes from trade with the USA, and that isn't even including indirectly aspects of dependence like investments, with 60% of Canada's wealth being invested in US stocks, bonds, or real estate.
