Many Herbivores are territorial and aggressive, cows are super aggro and will charge+stomp you down in pasture if they feel threatened or don't want to take a chance with a human standing around. Farmer/worker deaths and injuries by cow aren't uncommon at all. The one that killed 21+ was basically a sub-adult elephant in the range of initial musth cycling which occurs frequently in growing males at that age.
