Is your country's government desperately trying to emulate 1984?

A lot of people roll their eyes when they hear 1984 because it's over cited, but honestly out of all the books I've read I remember it the best. Especially since the ending is open ended and they never actually tell you if Julia was a plant nor does he care because he's already a bugman. Everything about it was memorable; Syme, the rams in the black book, two-minutes hate, and the journo job that involved making up stories. The only things I hated about it was the lack of suspicion around O'Brien, the shitty rat Chekov's gun, the 'escape' portions with Julia in the slums, and the bust in the rented apartment. Maybe that was the point of the book, that it was all so obvious and Winston was deluding himself, but it was painful to read through.

It also sticks out in my memory along with the other jorjor well books. I think it's because as an author he was very sharp and clear about the point he was making, even the prose is intentionally the opposite of fancy and vague. It really works in 1984 but imo it's just too much in animal farm when characters map almost 1:1 onto real people
