By the time Youtube de facto took over there was a point around 2014 where you'd get old media talk show hosts trying to pay for top SEO in the Youtube algorithm so you'd see Jimmy Fallen on the front page. Creators on Youtube obviously hated this and eventually it stopped, but there was a desperate attempt for relevancy during the early algorithm stages.
