For the longest time, the meta among the middle and upper class Indian youth was to move out of the country. It was second nature to them and was expected of them. Most of them didn't even have any particular disdain for their homeland or affinity towards the country they were moving to. They were just going through the motions. Of course the west is now filled with Indians now. I'm surprised it took the west this long to catch on to this.

The people moving out were and mostly still are kids of rich politician and government officials the people who are supposed to maintain the country. They got literally no skin in the game.
