Did you know there is a word in Russian 'плaтoк'. It means headscarf in English. It is culturally significant and women are expected to wear it in Church which in Russian is called 'цepкoвь'
>>218982603We call it "véu", it's quite common among protestant evangelicals
>>218982693I didn't think Protestants would wear it. I thought it'd be more a Catholic thing, are Protestants more extreme in their religion compared to Catholics in Brazil?
>>218982756grandma used to wear one all the time, same with others her age. but it looks like it died off with their generation, you rarely see one today if you do its some girl larping as the old generation and its hot af, i fully endorse it.we got the bunad trad clothing so its not so common to wear trad clothes from the 40-50-60-70s here but some do, should be more of it.fully protestant btw.
>>218982756Protestants used to wear them, only very old women do now. It's still a thing in Orthodoxy though
>>218982756It’s because we have some very specific evangelical churches here and they’re really conservative. They expect men to cut their hair and wear suits, they don’t allow women to wear jeans, men and women sit separately in church and women are expected not to cut their hair at all. There’s one church that’s basically just southern and southeastern Brazilians being turbo Christians. My whole family converted to that in the 2000s, before that they were Catholic and German Lutheran. I had a friend who played in the church orchestra and his parents had like nine kids, he got married right after high school
>>218982831it wasnt a religious thing here just a...thing? women used headscarfs, men used hats. i still remember grandpa's car i got to borrow it a few times when he was alive. its the only car i ever seen where the glove box contained nothing but his gloves and the "hat shelf" dunno if its the proper english name for it, the shelf behind the back seat, only contained his hat. grandmas headscarf was usually left on her seat.i felt i jumped 3 generations back in time whenever i drove his car.
>>218982809I know it's an old person thing universally. But I've never seen a modern Protestant be into it.>>218982899What denomination is it? Kinda sounds like Mormons to me.

Hijab, Muslim>:(Hijab, Christian:o
>>218982756How many christians use these anyways? I've seen the explanation that their hijab is from Corinthians in the NT so wouldn't that make it for every denomination?
>>218983235because it isnt religious here, its just fashion and its currently out of fashion. might come back again, most fashions do have a revival or two. i hope this one does.
>>218982603sex
>>218983316Next to nobody in Australia, maybe Greeks in church but that's about it. Nobody wears it out and about, not even most old people. It's something my great grandparents would have worn. If you ever see footage before 1940-50 basically every woman would wear a headdress outside.>I've seen the explanation that their hijab is from Corinthians in the NT so wouldn't that make it for every denomination?iirc it's that men should leave their head bare (since Roman pagan priests covered their head) and women should wear something over their head. But yea it is biblically condoned.
>he’s not from a religious minority in his countryCringeHonestly converting the entire west would be a huge improvement. I don’t really agree with their interpretation and from what I’ve heard they think God will eventually tell them to close the church and stop converting people, but even so, it’d still be an upgrade. They’re genuinely zealous, way more than the average Catholic. This thread actually made me think about going back to church. I haven’t been in years, but I used to play in the orchestra, which was male only as well
>>218983690>close the churchI mean close the door to outsiders, not literally shut churches. I am ESL, sorry. From what I understand, that belief is real, I just have no idea how or when they think it would happen. The idea seems to be that they’d convert a certain number of people and then over time end up functioning more like an ethnic religion
>>218982603Yeah its almost like there are religious reasons.1 Corinthians 11:4-17
>>218983894Does it happen in your country
>>218984358It's not shameful for a woman to be bald, so this doesn't apply.
Fascinating fact from Germany: we call it 'Kopftuch' and don't wear it in church, which is called 'Kirche' in our language
