ジャガイモ is formally written as 馬鈴薯(ばれいしょ) in kanji.
Japanese administrative agencies and agricultural productive associations use 馬鈴薯 as a Japanese term for potato, but it's so formal that it's barely used in everyday conversation.
By the way, 馬鈴薯 is also a Chinese name for potato.

I'm growing frustrated, I feel like I'm not learning anything through my lessons but just memorizing versus understanding. At minimum I understand structure but when it comes to words I just get lost and feel I'm just going off memory of symbols versus knowing what they mean. Keep on trying. Never give up. I remember when I was learning Arabic. I gave up because I didn’t have any motivation left, but sometimes learning languages is like that. It’s never too easy, until you get to the later stages.
Flash cards helped a lot too, even though it honestly made me feel like I was at school which I didn’t have fun doing.

English grammar I've learned today: When a common noun for a title or position becomes a complement, no article is used before the noun.

Examples:
>Keir Starmer was inaugurated as Prime minister of the UK in 2024.
