It's like Japanese was specifically made for NEETs. The fact that you use anime for input and the insane amount of time you need to dedicate into it makes it perfect for a NEET weeaboo with nothing going on.I've honestly thought of learning Japanese as a third language because it seems really interesting and the challenge is also very tempting but the time sink filters me. With Chinese you can usually guess what a word means and how it's pronounced just by looking at the characters. But in Jap you are going to have to look up and memorize every single word no matter what.

I'd say that if you read like 5 pages of any russian book (not intended for learners) you'll encounter 90% of these concepts. You don't need to know these concepts by heart but I think being aware of them will save you a lot of time. Once you have the foundations I think the only problem remaining is finding suitable CI.

But I use ankidecks with accompanying audio, and I dip into a couple youtube videos every now and again and I listen to music in TL, but I always find I can't really keep up with dialogue if its quite quickfire between two people. Its like my brain figures things out in the moments after its been said. So in movies if a character says a short sentence then theres a gap of a few seconds before the next dialogue, then I can pick it up, but if there is continuous prolongued dialogue than I lose track of it.
