So I got a new phone...opened up the timer. It shows "lap" on a button. What the hell does "lap" mean here?

it's a stopwatch for doing things like track and field and lap refers to a lap in a race so you can hit it multiple times to record multiple lap times

when you are running on a track, you pass the starting line several times in a race
one time around the track is called a "lap"

basically, it records the time on the stop watch without stopping the timer
