I remember it being like this
>Primary school: Peak of popularity. Almost everyone was a fan
>Middle/high school: Was seen as cringe kiddie stuff. Admitting to liking it was social suicide.
>College: Indifferent. Overall more chill about it. "Oh you like pokemon? Cool."
>>
We werent allowed to have the cards at school because kids would fight over them and steal them and such
>>
I think its similar for all ages
Elementary school: very popular
Ages 10-14: sort of cringe because everyone wants to be pretentious and appear mature (german rap was extremely popular around that time when i was at school)
15-18: people either are indifferent or openly like it

Around that age 10-14 bracket most interest shifted towards WoW and CS too

the games and cards were pretty popular in primary school when red/blue/yellow came out, already a year after that it wasn't the zeitgeist anymore, while still in primary school. But nobody cared if you still liked it.
>>
I once got into a fight because some piece of shit punk tried to STEAL my rayquaza
>>
I quit collecting those cards at 2004. After wizards of the coast quit making the artwork for the cards
Most of my cards are from Expedition, Aquapolis, Skyridge so the top-tier vintage cards..

the anime was very successful

The cartoon was very popular 20 years ago. I don't remember anyone caring for the games or cards. But nowadays it's not so popular anymore
>>
I still wish Pokémon are real. I'd have a few qt3.14s and protect them with my life.
>>
>>219295072
I think most people can’t afford it now.
>>
>>219295072
Basically the same as you
When I was in middle school rather pmayed CoD instead of "baby game"
When I was in High School though peoples didnt care if you played it
>>
It was extremely popular that owning a Gen 3 cart is the equivalent of putting a target on your back since everyone would want to "borrow" it from you.

Pokemon was pretty much a rich kid's hobby back when I was a kid. Not everyone had cable to watch or was rich enough to buy a GBA or DS to play the games. Pokemon card collecting is considered a rich man's niche hobby here.
>>
>>219295072
90's kid here. Stopped watching after Hoenn because Hoenn gen was my first pokemon game gen on my GBA SP.
>>
>>219297395
Also used to get bullied for watching Pokemon or playing the game in school and in college but nowadays it's been more normalized. I only played all the games past B&W2 last month

You didn't emulate? I didn't have any consoles, but my cousin showed me how to get pokemon gold running on my PC.
>>
>>219297487
emulation only went mainstream here in early 10s for android such as apps like myboy. it was rare to own a PC as a commoner.

Pokemon aired on GMA though, didn't it?

>GBA or DS

I used to play DotA with tons of SEA players back in the day on GARENA and Gameranger. And Dota 2 from the beta days. But most of them were cafe kids, and I don't think most of them play Dota 2 anymore these days because you never really here the rage screaming and laughing groupds in the background
>>
>>219296678
Back in my middle school it was seen as kiddy, but then every male students swarmed around whenever someone brought pokemon merchs.
>>
>>219297420
I played all the way up to Gen 3. I think I lost interest around the time they went 3D. For some reason, 3D pokemon has always looked uncanny to me. The battle sequences are fine but the overworld looks...eh. Maybe I'm nostalgiafagging but Pokemon should always be pixelated top down 2D games.
>>
>>219297394
I couldn't afford a gameboy so I played the games on an emulator instead, this was in the early 2000s.
>>

Very popular especial in primary school, still quite popular in middle school, frowned upon in high school because you looked like a loser.
Never had the opportunity to fully enjoy when little, i only got a pack once in a while because back in the days 3 euros for one of those was seen as expensive, and never got a GBA since for my parents it was too much for a kid.
>>
>>219297695
I'd honestly rather kids play DotA at cyber cafes instead of retarded mobileslop like PUBG and FreeFire

back in the early 2000s there was a pokemon collab with Guaraná that had these pokeballs on the bottle caps with pokemon miniatures
>>
>>219295072
the anime was really popular, then they banned it because a kid thought he was a pokemon and could fly so he jumped out of a window and died
>>
I got brutally made fun of for playing pokemon games at lunch in primary school when I was 10.
>>
>>219295461
you went to a ghetto ass school or just a zoomer who had to go to school with third worlders. we used to trade cards on the playground all the time back in my day.
>>
I was obsessed with Pokemon from gens 3-5 pretty much, which obviously were the worst time to be a fan of it because everybody assumed you were a faggot.
