Persians have been a civilization for thousands of years, longer than just about anyone else. And yet in all that time they have NEVER had ANYTHING like democracy. Even zoroastrianism was a method of contol by the upper class, and was never a popular religion like catholiscism was.

For context, across the same tinescale europe went through:
Democratic city states with direct democracy -> Representative republic -> Autocracy that had to give lip service to democratic will -> Popular religion ran democratically that overthtrew authoritarian rome -> monarchies -> Revolutions installing parliamentary republics

Whenever an age of authoritarian rule spreads across europe, there is a popular revolution to replace the ruling system. Iran has NEVER seen a democratic revolution.
