I just learned approximately 13% of the world population is dark skinned africans which equals about the same as the entirety of the white population with the rest of the roughly 70% of the planet being various shades of brown or east asian.

You have to look at the whole region. Africa is pretty sparsely populated and West Africa only numbers less than half a billion and that's with probably very upper end estimates.
