Why are English people normally referred to as just “British”?My apologies if this is an absolutely stupid question, but I’m from England myself and always thought of this. Scottish people are referred to as Scottish, Welsh people are referred to as Welsh, and English people are normally referred to as British. It’s normally people from other countries who say this, is this because people would confuse it with the language itself?
>>219660918I dunno in other languages, English people are referred to as english
>>219660918I'm old and think the rise of 'Britishness' is unironically just young people getting Americanised by the internet. Growing up no one ever referred to themselves as British. If you ever said it you would put on a funny posh accent like the 'British' people in the American films. It's honestly really tragic that English are so buck broken they won't even name themselves.
