Housing is the big one that is killing people here, housing and then food. When I stay with my boyfriend in Sweden I am always so surprised by how inexpensive groceries are compared to the US, and the fact that my boyfriend owns his nice, comfortable home in a nice safe town in Skåne for only about $300/month. You couldn’t even rent a room in somebody else’s house for that price anywhere in the US, much less buy a home, or even rent a tiny crappy one-room apartment. The number of people living in their cars has exploded. I saw it first-hand when I was working at a 24 hour gym and there were so many people who had the membership basically for a place to shower, while they lived in their car. These were people with jobs too, not drug addicts etc. Lots of people living in hotels too because they can’t get approved for normal apartments due to the high income requirements. It’s a mess over here right now.
