My dad was from the north and my mom from the deep south. It was very confusing growing up. Many of my friends thought I was genuinely retarded because I kept mispronouncing words. I learned to model my speech after my northeastern friends because it seemed the most proper. I dread going back to the south, because I know a few days will have me speaking like a retard again.
