it's always weird whenever americans depict new england it's ALWAYS as this idylic land of green grass and rainbows with very little to no poverty or troubles. The worst you'll get is like an episode of the x files where an idyllic new england town with no worries or troubles suddenly gets a murder and the sheriff, who normally only deals with minor nuiscences like graffiti, is over his head trying to deal with an actual crime. I'm not saying that's wrong when you compare it to the rest of the country which is for the most part either sparse farmland or shithole (with lots of overlap) but they do this even when they try to make fun of new england like "haha your part of the country is so nice unlike my gruff and tough texas where real men are made" tacit admission that you they don't even plan to improve the country for the common man perhaps?and yet despite this romanticised depiction being so common you never hear of anyone moving to new england, instead americans migrate to florida en masse, and florida is famous for being a crime ridden shithole and drugs. I don't get it, why do americans seemingly fantasise about this part of the country as being this wonderland? It makes sense to do this to Japan or some place like that because there's real hurdles to moving there, but new england is just as accessible as florida, it's the same country, you can just go there and either be disillusioned if it's worse than you imagined or move there if it's just as depicted, and it's ALWAYS depicted as better than the rest of the country.Explain?
I mean, it’s a reflection of the class of people who write these shows and movies, right? Not necessarily a reflection of the views of regular American people. And the ones writing the shows are usually rich Jews from the northeastern US. Having lived all over the US but mainly being from the Midwest, I can tell you from my experiences in the northeast (both mid-Atlantic and New England) I wasn’t impressed. It’s not a place with a growth mentality, it’s full of all the same people who have been there for generations, playing dumbass status games and thinking their little world is the center of the universe.
