In my country, the doctors allow families to choose to bring their terminally ill loved ones home if there are nothing more that can be done. My father was one of them. He was terminal cancer and had only 2 weeks. We brought him home and the doctor gave us enough morphine for 2 weeks. A palliative care doctor visited every few days after that. He passed away in the arms of all of us in his house, on his own bed and no strangers seeing the indignity of dying. Technically, the hospital could have put him on life support to last for another week or two. But to what end?
