What???? Inhabited doesn't mean uninhabited??? habit (habitar) means reside, so wtf doesn't inhabit mean "not reside"? what do you mean un-in-habited? the opposite of "not reside" is "reside", so uninhabited means that people live there
>>
Inhalar
>>
This fucked my brain up as well when I was learning english
>>

what else fucked you up?
>>
>>219788591
not the same anon, but to me learning that non-jew americans circumcised their penis at birth and it was considered a normal thing to do
>>
>>219788408
In is an action verb. Ed is past tense. Un is negative meaning not. You could say this is a habit or habitat, but it could be completely empty. Inhabit means something lives there. Inhabited means something has lived there for a long time.
>>
>>219788892
Complete nonsense, this probably roots back to you being unable to understand what a french guy said
>>
>>219788408
Its *in*habit because they habit (live) *in* the area
>>
>>219788408
inhabit means reside
it's probably because the word habit is used for something else as well

English is considered to be one of the most complicated languages in human history for this reason (as well as our many irregular spellings lol)
>>
>>219789003
>>219788892
then uninhabited should be outhabited instead
>>
>>219789374
They mean the exact same thing. Don't ask for English to make any sense.

man, I've been learning chinese for longer than english and I still don't understand shit
>>
>>219789374
out =/= not. You would never say an outhabited home because the house might have never had someone in it before. "not" is the absense of, "out" refers to where something is (that which is not in).

Also, the "in" in inhabit is latinate, meaning "to", so inhabit means "to reside", shouldnt you know this as a romance speaker?
>>219789360
No it really isnt when you compare it to the likes of Japanese or Persian. Its mostly self explanatory as long as you understand the difference between Germanic, Latinate, and a few technical Greek derived roots. Compare this to Persian which has a much more complex grammar and case system mixed with a lot of Arabic, Indian, and various Steppe and minor language groups that called the Iranian plateau home. English is absolutely pristine compared to some other locations of linguistic development.

The difficulty of English comes at the upper-intermediate level. Phrasal verbs, modals, idioms, the sheer size of the vocabulary, propositions, and adjective order are enough to make an ESL's head explode. But of course you can butcher those and still speak decent English, so people reach upper-intermediate and dunning-kruger their ways into believing it's a simple language.

same as inherit for "heredar" instead of just *herit

sorry, but I'm 30 years old, and therefore way too young to understand that reference. pllease explain
>>
>>219789980
yeah, that bit comes from the fact that the in-word thing doesn't make any sense for us

I would say your thread is interesting, but it was kind of a letdown. It was teresting.
>>
>>219789374
That would imply the presence of people elsewhere. "This place has no people" =/= "other places have people"
>>
>>219790501
other places do have people though. I can see why you wouldn't use it in case of an apocalypse where 99.99% of the population is gone, but it isn't the case
>>
>>219789905
That's fair.

those phrasing and idioms are hard for most any languages due to their irregular nature.
>>
>>219790039
simpsons reference, i'm 19 btw
>>
>>219790582
>other places do have people though
Well... yeah, but why would I care that tokyo has people when I want to express that siberia doesnt
>>
>>219790582
you aren't really referring to a quality the place has then. just that things outside of the place have habitants, which doesn't really say anything useful about the place.
