When I was in Japan, I met with a friend of mine over there for a couple days. While there, the topic of coffee came up, and I mentioned that I thought Japanese coffee was amazing, and that even the junk you get from Konbinis is still fantastic. He said most Japanese don't even drink anything like that, and so I asked him what the Japanese considered good coffee, and he paused for a second before saying "Starbucks". I laughed, but he was being earnest, and I replied to him that Starbucks was considered bottom of the barrel shite back home. I always wondered why there was such regional variability (I tried the starbucks there and it was actually quite good)
