Long long ago, in a land far far away, there lived a Demon King whose name was Hirankashyap. Despite possessing great material wealth, the Demon King wanted more, he wanted to be immortal. So, he prayed to the Gods. He took up great penances which attracted the pity of the Gods. The Gods finally asked what he wanted and he said: "I want to be immortal. No God, man or animal can kill me. I ask that no Astra (projectile weapons) or shastra (handheld weapons) can kill me. I ask that no illness can kill me." The Gods, impressed, gave this to the Demon King.

After he got this boon, he unleashed terror upon the Three Worlds. He took India's throne, and made the Celestial beings his servants. He terrorized the people and demanded that they only worship him. But to his horror, his own son, Prahalada became a devout of Vishnu. He gave many cruel punishments to Prahalada, but could not make him denounce Vishnu. Eventually he decided to have him killed. His sister, Holika, who wore a cloak that protected her from fire, took an unconscious, naked Prahalada in her lap and went into the pyre.

Vishnu's who is omnipresent was watching and a wind blew behind Holika that took the cloak away from her and onto the child. Holika was burnt to death.

Vishnu then took the form of a half Lion half human, thereby bypassing Hirankashyap's boon, and tore open the tyrant on his throne. When the news of his death reached, the people rejoiced, and threw colours on each other for celebration. Since that day, this was known as "Holi".

>"I want to be immortal. No God, man or animal can kill me. I ask that no Astra (projectile weapons) or shastra (handheld weapons) can kill me. I ask that no illness can kill me."
you left out some details about his boon. he asked brahma for immortality but he was denied, so he used his cunning that is technically "immortality". his conditions were that no god, no demon, no human, no animal, no weapon, not on this earth, nor in the heavens, not inside a house nor outside, not during the day or the night could anhone kill him. So Vishnu took the form of a demigod and put hiranakashyapu on his lap and killed him using his claws right in between a door.

they're just trying to teach you the lesson that whatever you think is perfect will always be faulty one way or other. no need for a religion to tell you this in the big 26

i never tried to convince anyone of fairytales being real. if someone mentions or wants to know a story, it is good to discuss it instead of acting like literal retards.
