>I didn't expect American parents to stay for the entire playdate.>In Sweden, we drop kids off and trust them to sort things out.>In Los Angeles, I've learned trust builds extremely slowly, visit by visit.>This extends to parents, who also watch each other to make sure they are not inappropriately interacting with or looking at the children. Are Swedes too cold and careless with their kids?
>>219798792Swedes are the biggest pedophiles in all of the civilized world, so the person being nonchalant at the chance of kids being sexually abused shouldn't be surprising at all
>American parents watch each other to ensure one of them doesn't rape the kids
>>219798792My parents (mostly my mum) insisted meeting the others parents before letting us play together just to make sure they weren’t weird freaks but she knew most of my friends parents anyway so she just let us play together whenever. I don’t know if that’s normal or not.
>>219798792wtf is a "playdate"??

>>219798792One of my colleagues say that our parenting culture is becoming retarded as well, she has young kids and apparently it's becoming increasingly common for parents to essentially stay and supervise the kids if a classmate has a birthday party or something. You can't just drop off your kid, leave them to play among themselves and then pick them up later, the fucking CCCP committee has to remain close by at all times.
>>219798910A little caution is normal. But like you said, normally most parents know each other. Either by being neighbours or because of parents' evenings. But in general people weren't as afraid, that their kids might get molested or kidnapped, like it is today. I honestly give the fault to the media, but then again... this it's not the world I used to grow up like 20 years ago.
