Back when I was a kid rhey used to dominate electronics.all tv's were Japanese - Sony, Panasonic, Sharp.My family had a Pnasonic plasma tv at home.And many laptops too - Hitachi, Toshiba.My father had a Toshiba laptop.Now all electronics are korean/chinese.

Pretty much all of the infrastructure/soft power you know them for today was built up during the 90s and 2000s. They were also heavily dependent on foreign markets and sold their own labor/production off at the expense of their development. You'd have to be insane to think living in Japan prior to the bubble was better than the present. It only started getting bad in Japan recently after Russia chimped out and the ME destabilized since they relied on both for oil and oil is the economy in its entirety.
