This is the earliest religious content in China.

>The Tao is the origin of all things; the unity of nothingness and existence gave birth to the Tao. The Tao existed before the birth of the universe. It is empty and imperceptible, formless and shapeless, without sound or image. Yet it truly exists. The Tao operates ceaselessly, yet it cycles and repeats itself, governed by laws. At a certain stage, it returns to its initial state, and everything begins anew. All things in the world follow this law, operating without ceasing.

Before this, the Chinese worshipped the sky, believing that killing a few slaves would bring rain. They also lacked any religious scriptures.

it's kinda hard to really know what the beliefs consisted of specifically. a combination of animism, shamanism, totemism, and possibly ancestor worship were common place. there is a good amount of information regarding beliefs by individual tribes. but these can be quite distinct from one another, while simultaneously sharing particular aspects.
