Do you feel more Westerner or more European ?Both sides exist and not necessarily hostile but it needs to be asked. I was always a bit dubitative and neutral on this but then I traveled a lot and I found I just don't understand Americans.Regardless of political side, one time for example I was in Thailand I talked to an American right winger in a bar and he started saying he was a quaker or something ? Like on a pasta box iirc ? Anyways he started going on about Israel and the word of God and I had sincerely no idea what he was going on about. Every American I ever talked to had such foreign ideas that sound like they are from the Middle East. I talked to others same thing. I talked to American left wingers they seemed eqially outlandish, talking about abolishing gender and abolishing police (he says he is communist??) and whatnot. Overall they seemed like idealists and very foreign to me.Meanwhile I spoke to many "Easterners" from Poland Czechia Romania Croatie Slovakia and whatnot, and I understood everything basically. Same arguments as here nothing special.I didn't feel like I was out of my depth. Whatever political side they seemed like more reasonable understandable people.One time I spoke to an American she told me "but you are a westerner you should understand what I am talking about" I said "what west ? no I am not sure really" and she got mad and thought I was full of shit and cut it short. But honestly I was not, think the gap between us and them is widening, I really can't understand them and what they are thinking anymore. Honestly.Thought experiment (for us west euros) : you are in a bar, on your left there is a guy from usa, on the right a guy from poland, who do you really get along with ? I thought it was the same at first, but experience answered me that the average "Eastern" European is much more comprehensible than the fellow "Westerner".Thoughts ?

As I got older I felt much more European.Had the same experience as yourself, spoke to lots of Eastern Europeans and never felt they were particularly different to me.Americans often seem alright for a while but they'll always say or come out with something that makes you go, "Hang on, what".
