I feel like there is a decent understanding of european feudal relationships, with the interactions between centralizing monarchs-Church institutions-powerful noble families-and burgs/communes, but I got next to no idea how the Varios Islamic states actually worked besides them having powerful slave-sevent blocks like the Mamaluks or Janissaris. Everything else seems to be understated. I believe they didnt have much of an institutional church structure, and I never hear about particulaly powerful communes outside of some north african pirate cities.
