>BRITISH FOOD BAD
Holy fucking Reddit. Why are foreigners like this? You can't objectively tell me that there is anything wrong with this plate of food. Fried potatoes, braised beans in a tomato sauce and a couple of meaty sausages. Seriously, this is a perfectly simple, hearty, tasty, unpretentious plate of food. Its only crime is being British, and not Greek, French, or Italian.
>>
>>219867752
Your cuisine consists of war rations from the 40s. I'm convinced the fact British kept rationing for like 10 years after the way was just because they liked the food.

Why are british chips never crispy? They always look mushy and soft

Chips? Good. Bangers? Good. Beans? Good. What's not to like? An honest toilman's meal.
>>
Why chips? I like sausages and beans but I'd rather have them with properly salted mashed potatoes.
When I was in bongland, other students would line up just to get a carton full of plain unsalted chips. It boggles the mind.

Unless you have actually eaten at least five of the following;
>Sunday dinner
>steak and ale pie
>bangers and mash with onion gravy
>beef stew and dumplings
>fish and chips
>an english breakfast
>sausage roll
>pork pie
>crumpets
>hot cross buns
>scones with clotted cream
>pancakes with lemon and sugar
>lemon drizzle cake
>bakewell tart
>treacle tart
>apple crumble
>millionaire shortbread
>jam roly poly
>parkin
>sticky toffee pudding
>Eton mess
>Battenberg cake
>mince pie
You simply cannot have an opinion on British cuisine.

Checked off about half the list. I think you're just making the other half up.

It's just a swiss roll that they steam for no reason. It's like enshittification but british. Enbritishfication.

Our food doesn't travel beyond the isles because we don't have an immigrant diaspora anywhere except Australia (and they're the same as us) and Spain (and it's entirely built around pensioners who eat all day breakfasts and drink pints every day). You'd have to either live here or go out of your way to research recipes if you ever wanted to try it. I could probably find a Serbian restaurant or at least a broadly Balkan restaurant somewhere in a major city if I really wanted to try your cuisine.
>>219868546
A swiss roll is made with sponge cake, a jam roly poly is made with suet. They're not the same.

Its bland dude, I dont know why brits are like this besides the rationing cultures from the world wars. You guys have a historically really good seafood scene that translated to why New England has a very good regional food scene but you guys to this day still have that rationing mentality. Its the same thing with the midwest over here

Huh, strange. Country of 6m people with no coastline has a restaurant in all of your major cities but great britania rule the waves had precisely fucking zero in all of ex-yugoslavia. Wonder why

Do you get them over in Canada, or do you only have the nursery rhyme? I'm sure there's a little bit more cultural crossover with you lot than with Americans, so it wouldn't surprise me.

I didn't say that, I said 'probably' in 'a' major city. I haven't seen one tbf, I was making an assumption. I have seen Polish cafes/restaurants, and plenty of Greek/Turkish. I have also been to Monkeydonia and ate the food over there, although it was probably 50/50 Macedonian/Albanian. It was all nice either way.
>Wonder why
I told you why in the post you're quoting. We as a people have never had any reason to immigrate there. If there were no ex-Yugos over here, there certainly wouldn't be any ex-Yugo restaurants.

The french are a mixed bag to me, on the one hand they gave us hundreds of degenerate philosophers but then they gave us Houllebeqc , Raspail, Balzac, Baudrillard, de Maistre and Celine. The French Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race though

Let's cut this short. It's because your food is garbage nobody outside of your rainy little island likes it. I've met a dozen Brits here and almost no Mexicans. Yet we have a Mexican food chain (it's pretty bad). And many Mexican restaurants (also pretty bad, one or two are decent). We have full blooded Serbs larping making Mexican foods before they would even consider serving anything British. The entire world is like this. If the entire fucking planet doesn't like your war ration slop, it's probably not the entire world that's wrong
That said, enjoy your food. You'll be a little lonely in that globally speaking but it's your right.

>>
>>219869120
Your loss then pal. Tell me though, why do you think you have Mexican food chains over there, and not say Guatemalan? Why are there Thai and Vietnamese restaurants everywhere, but barely any Laotian or Cambodian? Where are all the Burmese restaurants? Is it really that in between countries with established marketable cuisines like India, Thailand and Vietnam, the quality of the food drops off a cliff?
>>
>>219869108
I just find it hard to believe you'd show up to bat for English cuisine of all things. Yeah I guess jeets and nafris are cringe but I'd never eat anything off OP's plate unless I was starving or I needed to be polite
>>
>>219869224
I've been in the UK (mostly in England, just once in Scotland) a few times and always found the cuisine great, it's probably not the healthiest and they eat too little vegetables but you can still find tonnes of lovely dishes, plus the sweets you can find over there are delicious
>>
I'd eat that, nothing wrong with it
>>
>>219869133
The one redeeming thing about British bar food is that British beer is god tier and it somehow pairs with slop like this perfectly
>>
>>219869274
I've no doubt their food CAN be good. I watch Great British Bake Off every season, but OP's pic is fucking dreadful and represents the mediocre side of their cuisine that would be common to anyone that doesn't eat at decent restaurants for every meal
>>
>>219869417
How many average Americans eat absolute garbage day in day out though? I won't judge your cuisine on whatever your worst shart-in-the-mart societal runoff consumes in their day to day life, I'll judge it by what you would consider to be worth sitting down somewhere and paying for.
>>
>>219866657
I've never understood the British fetish for canned beans. The sausage, the poh-tay-toeh, the fried fish, and all things slathered in gravy sure. But the beans? I just can't grok it.
>>
>>219867891
Because they're chips not fries

Chips = Larger, oven baked, cooked rather than crisped/fried

Fries = Thin, fried in oiled, crispy
>>
>>219869504
Yeah fair enough. I'm middle class and college educated and I know a few Brits in the same class and they cook amazing food themselves, but it's usually internationally inspired stuff rather than traditional English food or whatever. I do the same, I don't even know what 'traditional' American food would be so I just cook whatever I want.

It's easy to shit on mushy chips and canned beans tho
>>
>>219869597
>oven baked
Only the ones you can cook at home lol. At the chippy and in most restaurants they're fried. Pub chips are crispy, unless they're shite, but that anon is right - there's something about the chips you get at a chippy that aren't like the chips you get anywhere else.
>>
>>219868769
Americans say this when virtually everything they eat is prepackaged processed stuff. Even "American cheese" is literally wartime ration cheese.
>>
>>219868336
why did you leave mushy peas off of that list
>>
>>219869628
>it's usually internationally inspired stuff rather than traditional English food or whatever
A lot of traditional stuff is a pain in the arse to make to be fair. I make bangers and mash from scratch every now and again but that's because there's only a few components. I can't be arsed making anything involving pastry, and I can't be arsed making anything where I need to multitask more than two things at a time. Another issue, which I think is influenced by the whole war time rationing thing, is that a lot of generational family recipes and cooking habits probably got wiped out. I don't know anyone else in my life other than my auntie who makes pies from scratch, for example, and I'm sure if you went back a hundred years, most families would know how to make their own pies. I will say this; the stigma around British cuisine is undeserved, but the cooking abilities of the average bong is definitely below the global average.
>>219869779
Because that's not a meal in itself. Nobody eats mushy peas alone. You either eat them with fish and chips (corr), or personally I prefer them with a steak pie and mint sauce (CORR).
>>
>>219869746
We do have a rationing culture too but we do have large regional food scenes native to the US and everyone makes fun of midwesterners and their rationing food culture. American BBQ, Cajun food, New England food, tex mex etc
>>
>>219868336
I've had
>sunday/christmas roast
>piss and shit
>sosig roll
>meat pie
>crumpets
>tattie scones
>lemon pancake
And theyre all fine, some good even, but I've yet to eat a british meal thats above a 7/10. None of them are outstanding in any way, its all just meat + carbs + sauce + sometimes veggies loosely tossed together without much care or thought
>>
>>219869816
>but the cooking abilities of the average bong is definitely below the global average.
Only if you include people over the age of 70, zoomers and millennials can't cook no matter where they're from and most of the retards barking itt couldn't boil an egg

>>
>>219868964
Would be better if you replaced the pie with a little meatloaf 2bqh, the chips are already enough dry carbs dont need more from the bread
