There, they will clean my body of any blood or excrement etc and then my immediate family will bathe me and apply the wudhu (ritual bathing prior to prayers) to me. They then will cover me in three layers of coarse white linen and tie it up at my feet and above my head, but my face is left uncovered. My wrapped body will then be carried into the mosque where family members, friends and neighbours will get a last look at me. Close family members will then kiss my face for the last time before my face is covered. The male congregration will form up into 3 close ranks while my body will be placed in front of them. The imam will then perform the solat jenazah (prayer for the dead) on my behalf, as the last prayer for me. The solat jenazah is unique in that it is performed fully standing up with no bowing or prostrating. After the prayer, a family spokesman will come forward and thank the congregration and asks for forgiveness on my behalf. He also informs everyone that I owe money to come forward and meet him later. My body will be put on a stretcher and covered with a coffin and carried into a hearse van. Family members will be the pallbearers as it is a great honour to do so. Once I reached the cemetery, a dug grave is ready for me. My body will be lowered without a coffin into the grave by my closest male family members and placed on my side, with my face facing Mekah. The covering on my face will be opened and then planks of wood will be placed on top of me so that the soil won't crush me. Soil is then put back to cover the grave and family members will perform the talkin (death sermon and supplications) before leaving. All this must be done within 24 hours of my death if possible.
