>Under the long-standing influence of Tuscany's Pisa, and the historic Republic of Genoa, over Corsica, the Corsican language once filled the role of a vernacular, with Italian functioning as the island's official language until France acquired the island from the Republic of Genoa (1768); by 1859, French had replaced Italian as Corsica's first language so much so that, by the time of the Liberation of France (1945), nearly every islander had at least a working-knowledge of French. The 20th century saw a vast language shift, with the islanders adapting and changing their communications to the extent that there were no monolingual Corsican-speakers left by the 1960s. By 1995, an estimated 65% of islanders had some degree of proficiency in Corsican,[2] and a minority of around 10% used Corsican as a first language.[3]
At this point they deserve to be a shitty forgotten outpost existing for the sole purpose of annoying the italian military and stealing our EEZ. They behave like niggers
Didn't they get rekt by the Tuscans into speaking their language to begin with thoughever
>>220275655No, they are descendants of tuscan settlers for the most part
>>220275732I though Corsicans were ethnically French
>>220275769Corsica is 100% an italian island.
>>220275592You have to consider french and italian are quite similar anyway. The same process actually happened in Italy too where many local dialects where replaced by the official italian.I think something similar happened with some nordic languages.
Looks like two shits falling from ass (portofino)
People prefer to learn, speak and taech to their children useful languages. That's how it goes.
>>220276275sad
>>220275592French is the language of the future. Your country will be black and speak French
in the future, Europe will just speak English + 3-5 regional languages
>>220275592*inhales>Napoleon's native language was italian*exhales>he never learn to speak proper french and was bullied for his accent
>>220275732Why are they genetically different then?
>>220276392Apperantly Napi III spoke french with a noticable GERMAN accent too.
>>220276275this, it wasn't until the age of nationalism that people started obsessing over language
>>220275592GIVE IT BACK

>>220276724and that's a good thing
>>220276739I think he was just larping as Hitler
>>220275894Northen Italian dialects and genetics are Gaulish-influenced. Hell the Aosta valley had French as its official language before French was France's official language. No more brother war, split Italy into 3 with the North forming the Gaulish Union with France, the papel state being the central buffer and the south being given to spain or greece(or give greece to them).
>>220276523Okay but (you) give back the norman islands you THIEF
>>220275592home to the best girl
Language is just a tool for communication and self-expression anyway, it doesn't have to be a cornerstone of one's identity. If speaking another language threatens your Corsican-ess or your self image, what does that tell of Corsicans, or of you? Do you stop being Corsican if you switch to French or Italian? Do you define yourself, or does your language define you? It's ultimately just another form of identity politics and therefore kind of cringe.
>>220277186national and regional languages are the only thing between us and globohomo WEF communism
>>220277486Again, if the only difference between you and the globohomo is a language that has to be kept alive artificially, what does that say of you?Surely there's gotta be more substance to identity.
>>220275592this place is always annoying as fuck in Total War: Rome so im glad its going to shit
>>220276739He grew up in GERMANY and switzerland iirc
>>220275894if italy somehow occupied all of france i can guarantee that in 20 years they would all speak italian lmao (also the opposite is true)
>>220276986northern italians (at least the few ones that remain) are closer to the french than southern italians yes, everyone knows this
>>220276421they're not, they're polentonis
>>220277646It's the only part of ethnic identities that is practiced 24/7 by everyone within the ingroup, how could it get more substantial than that? Wearing outdated clothing once a year?
>>220277646if you only take into account ethnicities france spain and nothern italy would be a single country, southern italy greece and north africa another
>>220280278They are mostly like sardinians, who are mostly Neolithic farmer
>>220280701nope, they're mostly north italian with a bit of sardinian ancestry

>>220281554who knows, probably sardinian-like people or maybe they were already the descendants of mainland italians but from a previous era
>couldIt already has happened for most languages in Europe. Nowadays a lot of "dialects" are 99% identical to the standard language, but with some random words from when there used to be a language.
>>220275732What happened to the Nuragic niggas who were there before Shitalians? I remember the Sherden sea people came from Sardinia and Corsica right?

>>220277646Trvke. A lot of meme languages out there don’t need to be kept artificially alive. The younger generations are already making it happen
>>220275592Already did, except the Dalmatian language went fully extinct at the end of 19th century.
>>220281554>>220281656Yes, they still are there mainly in the south. But the original population was nearly wiped out by a plagye, that's why tuscan settlers were invited to settle the island
>>220282793Sardinians are mostly ancient anatolian farmers, almost pure. If you want to know how they looked like you can look at them
>>220277646It's a loss in cultural heritage. To give you an idea there aee whole languages who disappeared in Italy with their unique sounds. Think of all the lost songs. It's part of your history and identity dying to never come back.
>>220283486They will probably all speak a bastardised form of Arabic.
>>220275592Corsicans are gone.>Corsica has a population of 322,120 inhabitants (Jan. 2013 estimate).[1] At the 2011 census, 56.3% of the inhabitants of Corsica were born on the island and 28.6% in Continental France, while 0.3% were natives of Overseas France and 14.8% hailed from foreign (non-French) countries.[2]>The majority of the foreign population in Corsica comes from the Maghreb (particularly Moroccans, who made up 33.5% of all immigrants in Corsica at the 2011 census), and from Southern Europe (particularly Portuguese, 22.7% of all immigrants, followed by the Italians, 13.7%).[33]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corsicans#Demographics
