In Latin America, a lot of right wing people lean toward free markets but still like some level of authoritarian control, like Pinochet or Kuan Yew. Brazil had its own Perón in Vargas, but nobody really cares about his ideology anymore. His party can’t win anything, so he mostly comes up in conversations about what went wrong and how Brazil could’ve done better. The country could be way bigger today if it had kept absorbing immigrants, but nationalism stopped that. What’s funny is that a lot of leftists still praise Vargas, even though he was a military guy who plotted coups and cracked down hard on communists and anarchists.
