I've met a lot of friendly flips so I don't want to say anything too negative. But something about their mentality is very... colonized? They seem to lack a clear cultural/national identity that isn't based on latching onto some greater power and hoping it will always have their back. A bit similar to cambodians, except khmers are more opportunistic and will 100% backstab you if they think they can gain from it.I also see a lot of flips really lean hard into the "we have Spanish/Euro/White/American blood" meme. This is just my opinion but bragging about being a rapebaby doesn't seem to earn as much goodwill from foreigners. People have a tendency to respect you more when you have actual self-respect. That's just what I noticed online though, it probably has no bearing on tourist numbers lmao.

The Philippines is dirtier and arguably more dangerous than Thailand. Their food is dog shit while Thailand has good food, and good foreign food. And it’s cheaper. Philippines in general is more expensive than Thailand but you don’t get your “bang for your buck” so it’s not really worth it. The only thing they have on Thais is their ability to speak English and slightly more lax visa rules.
