Almost all the older married couples around my grandparents village basically hate each other, the husband beats the wife, etc. A lot of them were arranged marriages by families and acquaintances. My grandpa also beat grandma and they constantly fought and argued up until he died. My parents also constantly fought. But none of them divorced because this was seen as normal and divorce was stigmatized. Also essentially all of the men around the place are fat hopeless alcoholics.

How did their voices sound? What did they look like? They have seen life and experienced sorrow, happiness, misery, and everything else. Or maybe they didn't, and simply observed the passing years with indifference. Now here they are, at the very sunset of their existence, glassy-eyed, miserable, rotting corpses, life still holding on in them somehow.
