West Midlands Police have cordoned off a section of Smithford Way following a "frenzied and systematic" attack that has left the Coventry community in a state of absolute shock.The incident, which took place in broad daylight on Friday, March 27th, involved a group of approximately five men a witness described as dressed like "chavs", who reportedly "pounced" on a lone individual as he emerged from the local Greggs. According to traumatised onlookers, these men did not use traditional weapons, but instead used their bare hands and teeth to "tear into the victim's flesh"."It was animalistic", said one witness. "These chavs were fighting over the pieces. One of the men literally bit his ear off while the others cheered. There was no mercy. They just kept shouting at us. By the time the police arrived, he was unrecognisable."The victim was reportedly well-known in the area for being "thick-skinned" with a "warm centre".The Coroner's Office has officially identified the victim as local favourite, Samuel Widge.
