>>220344654In American football you can kick the ball in some casesIt's weird sport because it started as rip off of football before becoming rip off of rugby
FootballBaseballBasketballIce hockey
>>220345426Is there any regional or racial difference between likings for these sports?
>>220344605Its weird how britian and America had a "Phase" of a bat sport, then the countries they conquered took it up, they moved on, but the colonies kept it.
Soccer, and tennisNo idea about the rest
>>220344654In our version, the players can pass the ball forward, not just sideways. There are other differences too.>>220346106>footballNumber 1 sport by far but it's especially popular in the Southeast and Midwest.>baseballHistorically it was most popular in certain cities in the North and Midwest, but nowadays it's probably bigger in the southern states (Southwest + Southeast) because it's easier to play year-round in the warmer climates.>basketball African-Americans and zoomers.>hockeyWhite people from the Northeast and Minnesota.
Why is all of Europe just #1: football, #2: random hobby sport played by a handful of amateurs. Why did you guys never properly develop your own sports, and instead chose to dedicate your national pride around one of the worst Anglo ones?
>>2203446051) football2) handball3) rowing4) whatever who cares
>>220346322Handball and numerous forms are skiing were invented by Europeans. And no they aren't made of amateurs>>220346182Interesting What are some similarities between American football and football football? If you know it how did African Americans got into basketball? It started as university sport played in YMCAs
>>220346106No, in the US sports are seasonal.>springBasketball>SummerBaseball>Fall and parts of winterFootballI think one of the key reasons soccer fails to catch on is it cannot find a place within this seasonal system. If there was a "time for soccer", let's say winter, then it'd be accepted as something you watch during that period of time.
>handball>skiing>And no they aren't made of amateurslmaoing out loud rn
1)hockey2) probably basketball 3-,5) baseball, American football as well as our version of it and soccer 6-8) curling, athletics, golf9-10) tennis and probably something like swimming
>>220346421>If you know it how did African Americans got into basketball? It started as university sport played in YMCAsMuch like soccer, it doesn't require much equipment (just a ball and a hoop) and it can be scaled down (1v1, 2v2, etc), so it's good for poor people who don't have the funds to join a club. Also it can be played in a very small area (unlike soccer and also unlike the other major sports in the US), which is good for African-Americans because most of them live in heavily urbanized areas.
Soccer is actually the most popular sport here
>>220346770Probably in terms of participation but not actually people giving a shit

>>220346421Both of these sports descend from games that students at rich British public schools used to play. The rules were wildly different at each one but they were all called football. In the mid-1800s graduates from different schools who met up at university wanted to start playing each other but realized they didn't have a unified ruleset so they started working on putting one together. In the end, they ended up with two: One for the Football Association (how we get 'soccer' and what 'afc' stands for) and another for rugby. Both were still called football, which led to a lot of confusion until one or the other eventually won out in local popularity and got to keep the name (FA rules won out in the UK, descendants of the rugby rules in literally every other English-speaking country)>>220344654In the 1860s, American universities, which had their own football traditions more related to the association code, started organizing matches against each other. In the 1870s, Harvard played Canadian university McGill under a code closer to Rugby, decided that shit was way better, and switched over. Everyone else followed except Yale, who held out because they hate Harvard. One of Yale's players, Walter Camp, criticized the game for the unpleasant nature of scrums/rucks/mauls and the fact that one team could just run into the other one over and over again without giving up the ball and so proposed that a team get a limited number of chances ('downs') to advance the ball a certain distance before having to give it to the other team, with a chance ending and play stopping once a runner was tackled to the ground before the next chance would begin with a modified scrum that the possessing team would win by default. Eventually a forward pass was added and a bunch of other shit that makes it an almost completely different game but with similar terminology.
>>220348638>Baseball is latino/asianThat's true insofar as it's huge in the Hispanic Caribbean (including Venezuela) and in Japan/Korea/Taiwan, and players from those countries play in MLB. However, it isn't necessarily huge among US-born Hispanics and Asians. The large majority of US-born MLB players are white.
>>220348701This is incredible May be why university teams are still relevant iyc
>>220344605For 2.5 months over summer the cricket is on where we play exactly 5 test mathes against other countries and a short formst leagueThen the rest of the year the southern states play afl and the northern states play rugby leaguePosh people play rugby union (which is what everyone else plays) in the north but its dead as fuckPosh people play tennis in the southAnd we tune into the olympics for gold medals. Its Ice Hockey and BasketballSoccer here is kind of like how it is in America where kids (mostly minorities) play it when young and then wean off it. There has been a push by libtards to make us more notable and not suck complete ass, I hope this fails.Other sports include (Beach) Volleyball, Floorball and Women's tennis. We also care about Bobsled, Skeleton and Lugw more than average, but with Dukurs gone the interest waning.
According to study last year:1. Icehockey2. Athletics3. Skiing4. Football5. BiathlonBased on gender it's much the same except for men #5 is Rally (wrc) and for women it is figure skating.Honourable mention to Pesäpallo (Finnish baseball), Basketball, Horse harness racing, and folk racing/Jokkis (cars)

>>220348701Interesting. Thank you for explanation >>220353672I thought it's mostly throwing the ball
>>220354023Not only do we not rely on socca, we don't care about it at all. I can't explain to you why, because as you said sucking at the sport is rarely an excuse. One of our teams got into some international tournament so in 2024/2025 there were some games held here. Foreign fans came over and acted like niggas. Libtards on twitter went>uhm... first time seeing football fans? Its dey culchavery concerning
>>220354140>I thought it's mostly throwing the ballOf course, but there are more scenarios in which to kick the ball and it is a much more important part of the game than in American football

>>220344654In rugby you can only pass the egg sideways and backawards, which forces the team to play as a unit. In handegg you can throw the egg on ever direction, so you only need the egg thrower and some other dude that will run to the finish line. The rest of the team are there just to fighting and shit
>>220344654football is like rugby but rugby is played by men.
>>220346322All other sports run at the same time as football. From september until may.People just pick to watch what they enjoy the most.It isn't like USA or Australia, where the sports run on diferent times of the year

>>220354408Its funny because here hardcore football fans are sterotyped to being right wing sometimes even straight up fascist and criminal. I wish we have more state support for sports we are really good at like volleyball, handball and tennis except of dumb football
