How come their culture supposedly comes from Britain but they have absolutely nothing in common?
>>
>>220354012
Because most amerocans are mix of germans, spaniards and aliens that larp as a version of british they got from a line of broken telephone.
>>
Because the material and geographic conditions and thus histories, values and national character, etc., of the two societies differ so radically.
Besides they're not so different. Both have common law, love their checks and balances, pride themselves on freedoms supposedly enjoyed by the populace, speak the same language. American culture is a direct offshoot of British and the two continue to influence one another to this day, even if the direction of influence has changed.
>>
>>220354012
>absolutely nothing in common?
Their legal systems are very similar actually. Much more than Britain's system is to any European country. They also have rather similar, highly financialized economies.

American culture is an offshoot of Anglo culture. There’s a lot more in common under the surface than you’d realize as a foreigner.

American culture is centered around Brits. They have holidays for Brits. They killed hundreds of thousands of Germans to defend Brits. They listen to British music. They elect British descendants as their presidents. They dress and act like Brits. They draw the entirety of their modern culture from Brits. They post sassy gifs of British actors. They watch sportsball invented by Brits. They cheer for British boxer Tyson Fury and watch British teams like Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City. Their biggest event of the year involves throwing parties in honour of great British men like George Washington and Thomas Paine. They use the English language. When you say "Floyd" they're not thinking of the great American boxer Floyd Mayweather or great American civil rights leader George Floyd. They're thinking of 70s British rock band Pink Floyd. Their cities are completely overrun with Brits. They worship their ZOGbot global police force of soldiers that protect British interests. Their men sit around watching Peaky Blinders while their women sit around watching Harry Potter and fantasizing about British dick. They worship Brits like Henry Cavill and Ed Sheeran and David Bowie and the late John Lennon while also worshipping the Brits who actually built their country before the Americans took over. Their movies are filled with Brits and their music charts are topped by Brits. They watch British porn to a point where "BBC" does not make them think of an international media company but about Big British Cocks instead. They will tell you how much they hate the British and how the teaboo meme is a stale joke and they are just pretending to love Brits but the evidence speaks for itself in that America has always been and will be a nation of Brit loving cuckolds.

We have a common ancestor, 18th century Britain. We both diverged since then. The UK now is not what Britain once was. Think about how womanly, self interested, and pathetic they are now. This is a country that once conquered the planet 200 years ago. OBSESSED with pushing the boundary in every sense, every frontier. I buy into the theory that all Anglos like this simply left the island and the remaining genetic stock no longer resemble the total composition.

We have two fragments, the more domesticated Brits, and the wild adventurous Brits, and they went two different ways culturally. USA/Canada/Australia/South Africa vs the UK.

I find on average Americans are much more diverse in opinion, education, and cultural expectations so it’s hard to make any broad assessment
So you can meet people who think England is a fictional place from a movie and then people who have memorized all the extent Old English poetry
Maybe I’m wrong but most Europeans I’ve met from a certain area and class background have been pretty uniform and it’s usually easy to guess their level of education and interests
>>
>>220356700
for some reason all the americans i meet irl are rich extroverted californians
but all the americans i meet online are autistic introverted east coasters
>>
>>220356733
Well if it’s travelers the rich bit makes sense
West coasters are soulless mongs though. Beautiful place but the people are kind of cattle like and detached from real life. Northeasterners are a bit more like Brits in terms of humor imo
>>
>>220356700
>>220356733
The US is just a much larger and more diverse country. “American” can mean so many things that it doesn’t actually mean much except for your papers. When we talk of similarities between American and UK culture, we by default are implying white Americans, most of whom are NW European and usually have significant British ancestry. But there’s still diversity among this group based on region. Then layer over the usual urban vs rural divide and meeting a white American can mean many things.
>>
>>220356577
Even Turks are more similar to Europeans than modern day white Americans are, but people are not ready for that discussion.
>>
>>220356658
From Moscow to Madrid, the European experience is more or less the same, and it's all completely alien to the average Unitedstatian or New Worlder

>>
>>220357131
>>220357323
Literally it all comes down to sports.
Like 80% of young men's social bonding revolves around how we like to kick balls around for fun. Soccer Football (yeah we say soccer in Australia too) is a universal European obsession so it unites them more than anything else does.
>>
>>220357620
Australia is a penal colony with a penal colony mentality, not a “frontier founded nation.” You started as a prison and you’re still a prison.
>>
England gave America a language, a legal system, the Protestant faith, baseball, apple pie, Amazing Grace and more.
>>
>>220357620

You (and Canada) went full globohomo and hyperurbanized, now you're nanny leftists, yes, but for quite some time your culture was considered adjacent to Texas, if you don't remember Chang.

>>220357620

Still misunderstands the differences btw. It isn't just "guns." It's an ambitious business economy, it's suburban sprawl, etc. International anglos live life like they are wandering masters of the world. Domestic anglos in the UK are still quite provincial and landlocked, tiny houses, little lives, villager mentality, only the villagers stayed behind.

In some ways that is luck. We had founders recently coming off of an independence movement, sensitive to government tyranny, and they set up a babyproofed maze that's been much harder to capture by tyrants. And the semi-autonomous states acting as sort of a check and balance as well.

It did up until very recently. English identity in the U.S. has been suppressed ever since it became our governments best interest to distance us after WW2. In reality, many areas of the U.S., and pretty much any rural area populated by whites here, is still very British in its baseline culture. It's just not "cool" so you don't hear about it, but if you dropped a mainer into yorkshire he'd have a hard time figuring out why everyone suddenly was driving on the left of the road.

We speak English, idolized English history and figures ( up until the late 90s ), have English christian branches and, genetically, are predominantly English if you don't count immigrants from post-WW2 ( not real Americans). One day, a real revolution will come, and we'll wash this entire country clean of the hispanics, asians, muslims, and of course the filthy dago wops that convinced everyone JEW york city was the peak of American culture.
>>
>>220354012
I have no opinion on America. Some stuff is cool, some is bad, some of their culture is familiar and other parts are alien. When I visited Florida it was very strange, not necessarily bad but very weird and I think I’d definitely have felt more at home anywhere else in Western Europe. I don’t dislike them, but they’ve become so mixed that they’re a different people now, unlike Aussies for example where most are still very Anglo even down to an ethnic level.
>>
To further elaborate on the deep British ancestry of the U.S., I'm going to give an anecdote of my own experiences, highlighting two different yet similar rural regions of the U.S.A.. The book Albions Seed does a good job covering the cultural differences.

My family overwhelmingly traces back to pre-1776 southern states. About 88%. The other 12% were irish immigrants. My family raised me in an Anglican christian culture and I was exposed mostly to older English literature growing up. My dad identified as "scottish" as a kid, but when we took a deep-dive into our family tree, found it to be >80% English that came over into Virignia from 1600 - 1750. I have only 7% non-british ancestry and less than 20% non-English ancestry, most of whom were raised as English speakers before the colonies rebelled.

My wifes family come from rural New England, its hard to say when exactly because puritans didn't have as much autistic record keeping, but the known portions of her tree match the profile of old stock puritan English Americans. Her family identifies as "French" due to her dads paternal line, but she's actually ~80% English and some Irish.

Our families have English traditions, names, genetics, language, religion, literature, and ancestry, yet it is a silent identity. No one in America ever calls themselves "English". Why would they? It's the default. Or at least, it was.
>>
>>220371737
It's not about identity though. You could still identify as 100% British, that performative identity would still not change the fact that you're essentially completely different cultures, eventhough you larp as if all English speaking countries are one and the same
>if you dropped a mainer into yorkshire he'd have a hard time figuring out why everyone suddenly was driving on the left of the road
If you dropped a Brit in any US suburb, he'd find no resemblance to his country and he'd most likely feel more at home anywhere else in Europe

Why should I listen to the opinion of a fucking Brazilian on my culture? You're right, to pretend I'm a born-in-london british citizen would be performative. To ignore the distinction between American WASPs and modern day British identity is to turn a blind eye to the reality that our cultures have, indeed, diverged into distinct entities. But those are, make no mistake, two distinct ANGLO entities. I come from the culture and the people of the british empire. My ancestors once served the same kings as their ancestors. I speak not their language, but OUR language, and share their history both before we split and for many years after as our seperate countries worked side by side as sister nations. You can't compare that to the foul mockery of iberia that your state, for example, props up.
