I have only 7% non-british ancestry and less than 20% non-English ancestry, most of whom were raised as English speakers before the colonies rebelled.My wifes family come from rural New England, its hard to say when exactly because puritans didn't have as much autistic record keeping, but the known portions of her tree match the profile of old stock puritan English Americans. Her family identifies as "French" due to her dads paternal line, but she's actually ~80% English and some Irish.Our families have English traditions, names, genetics, language, religion, literature, and ancestry, yet it is a silent identity. No one in America ever calls themselves "English". Why would they? It's the default. Or at least, it was.
