I believe I will no longer need to mine massively after hitting 10.000 words, maybe even 8.000. Currently I'm at 5300 and it will take me about 2 months to reach that goal.

So I can properly recognize and sound out hiragana and I'm decently familiar with katakana but I haven't been doing that many kanji/vocab words would it be a good idea to jump into playing japanese games I am familiar with now because I basically already know the plot or should I wait until I have most of Genki's kanji and a fair amount of vocabulary under my belt before starting to try to read?
