Americans have these things called Mexican toilet goblins. They come crawling under the gap and keep you company while you do a poo. You can't really communicate them in the traditional sense since they speak no English, but their company is still appreciated none the less.

Public bathrooms are just separate little bathrooms next to each other, same with big public ones like in malls. Top pic is Mall Of Scandinavia just down the street from me. Middle pic is a public street toilet. Bottom is the bathrooms in my kid brothers school.
