It's not even just them, it's everyone. I've always liked uncool T-shirts with a bit of character, I'd wear an obvious souvenir shirt I got on holiday or something I got at the science museum. I think the 2000s were just the right time for all that kind of thing, the internet wasn't as massive just yet and smartphones were in their absolute infancy, so social media was in the earliest stage before it all got worse.
