What is the best Asian language to learn in 2026 and why? Chinese, Japanese or Korean?
>>220508463For me it's Safiahttps://youtu.be/2x_3cih_i2A?si=d2QqODly_1h6iCpM&t=215
Japanese and Korean are rather useless to learn unless you’re a massive weeb for either country’s culture
>>220508527How common are people from Quebec in France?
>>220508571Dunno but I've never seen one because I live in a small town
>>220508531Why this /INT/ board has The Japanese Language threads everyday?
>>220508699Could have something to do with it being a weeb site idk
>>220508531But you are correct. So is Spanish regardless of someone’s cultural interest>NOOOOOO YOU DONT KNOW THE POPULATION OF THE SPEAKERRRRRnigger income per capita
>>220508463Unironically still Japanese. People keep saying Mandarin is the language of the future because China is a rising power, but they still have only a fraction of the popular media that Japan has, plus Japanese has a long backlog of anime, manga, games, shows, etc. Chinese weeb media is mostly just copying what Japanese companies already do, and have Japanese/English translations. Chinese historical media can be cool but almost nobody learns Chinese just for that, unlike people who learn Japanese just for anime and games. Chinese is also better if you're working in China or international businesses, but most people don't do that. Most people on this site have more to gain from Japanese than Chinese.
Chinese. Japan is unironically a dying country. The country is in demographic decline and economic depression. There are virtually no opportunities for Westerners and foreigners anymore. The Japanese gdp per capita has dropped below that of Puerto Rico, working hours are horrible and Japanese pop culture has become stale and eclipsed by Korea and soon China, China is already eclipsing Japanese tech. The golden age of Japanese animes and music is over, like that of Hong Kong kung fu movies. Don't believe me? Just walk through present day akihabara and the walls are already plastered with creeping K-Pop group and Chinese gacha game character ads.Meanwhile the Chinese economy is rivaling that of the US, its pop culture is maturing and expanding abroad, their are plenty of generous opportunities for Westerners that speak some Chinese in China and abroad. While only a few Japanese diaspora communities exist today even if you never plan to visit China there are almost 100 million diaspora Chinese people abroad including in your country right now and like a dozen countries all over Asia with millions of Chinese people living there as significant minority groups.Learning a language is an investment into the future and Japan is a country stuck in the past.
>>220508531spbpChinese is still the best since at least it can give you job opportunitiesI still wouldn't be crazy enough to learn it though
none, stop learning languages you pretentious midwitsyou can easily communicate with anyone on the planet with some basic ass online translator in your phonelearning a language on an even half-decent level takes hundreds of hoursif you are learning any third language (or second in case of anglophonoids) in the current year you are wasting a huge chunk of your short life on what is essentially a pointless flexgo touch grass, have sex, play video games or just do whatever else than le*rning l*nguages
>>220509984Another thing to keep in mind is that Japan really is a very homogeneous country that is characterized by a form of ethno-nationalism that is covertly being espoused, even by the most progressive Japanese people. If you meet 100 Japanese guys many will have the same character or personality and you will likely never be accepted by them as their peer. At best you will only really make friends with Japanese people that have had big exposure to Western culture, like third culture kids that have grown up abroad, hapas or Okinawan army basterds.Meanwhile China is a civilization state that is full of ethnic minorities and more diverse sub-types of Chinese people, the biggest one being the North-South dichotomy. The Chinese identity is, to a certain extent, more of a cultural one, so yes, if you speak Chinese you can become Chinese to a certain extent, you can and will meet more Chinese people with different and widely different personalities.
>>220508463Chinese if you want more moneyJapanese if you want a Japanese girl

>>220508463>What is the best Asian language to learn in 2026 and why? Chinese, Japanese or Korean?Get rid of your preoccupation with consensus Take some agency in your life Life will better for you once you do
>>220508463Chinese if you care about the future.Japanese if you like Japanese pop culture (plus it sounds nice)Korean if you like K-pop I guess idk
>>220510133Life without literature for the high IQ mind is a bore and a torture. And providence has not afforded me grass to touch, sex to have, or video games to play
>>220508463Japanese for consumerism Korea has the easiest alphabet to learn in the worldChina would be a good one but you won't live long to use it when they become the superpower of the world in 2100
>>220510284Yes, end? The point is that in many countries that have a pre-modern imperial legacy often you end up with forces that arr much more tolerant of minority identities than those formed out of modern ethno-nationalist movements. Kemalists in Turkey hate Kurds and Arabs, while Neo-Ottomans are more tolerant, in Spain imperial apologists often are Hispanistas, etc.

>>220509984gratuitously contrarian opinion, chinese and korean pop culture is gigaslopand they're declining just as hard if not harder, only the trend started a couple decades later so the effects have yet to manifest to the same extent who cares about gdp per capita, you should learn arabic to live in qatar by that token, it's irrelevant
>>220513120>chinese and korean pop culture is gigaslopOf course it is like all pop culture but unlike most countrie they do actually offer heaps of original gigaslop.>and they're declining just as hard if not harder, only the trend started a couple decades later so the effects have yet to manifest to the same extent I think you don't understand that for something to decline it has to go up first.>who cares about gdp per capita, you should learn arabic to live in qatar by that token, it's irrelevantBut Arabic is a minority language in Qatar. English is the language of work and commerce there. In fact there are more Tagalog, Bengali and Indian-language speakers in Qatar than Arabic ones.Arabic is pretty useless, even within Arabic-speaking countries themselves, including Algeria.

And if you want to do it regardless because you don't have anything better to do it understand it's gonna be pretty much useless and only used for consuming slopIf you have a big diaspora in your city it's reasonable too to learn their languagethere solved it for you, any other argument is retarded>b-but muh job opportunities learning Chinesefor evey non Chinese that speaks Chinese there's 10000 Chinese that speak English why would they hire you lol>t. studied all 3 languages 6/10 Japanese, 3/10 Korean, 1/10 Chinese
I'm learning Japanese firstAfter Japanese I will have to pick literary Chinese or literary JapaneseI like classical Japanese literature and so if it's significantly easier to read then I may pick it as my second but I do think literary Chinese is probably the better 2nd choiceI don't care about Korean, Vietnamese, Mandarin, etc

>>220508531Japanophilia is mainstream now.Japanese language ability is a status symbol now akin to Long Nineteenth Century French.
>>220509984Neither Japanese or Chinese will ever become languages of the future. The demographics of China aren't much better than Japan's and the language is too difficult to learn.I'm also pretty sure that the complexity of Chinese characters was unironically one of the biggest reasons why China fell behind the west.Something Gutenberg's printing press with moveable letters would have never been possible in China due to the sheer number of Chinese characters and the printing press and the spreading of books and literacy was the biggest reason for Europe's rapid scientific and technological advancement.
>>220508463Imagine half white babies, growing in their wombs.
>>220520720>I'm also pretty sure that the complexity of Chinese characters was unironically one of the biggest reasons why China fell behind the west.no, it was millennia of civil war and genocide
>>220520761deeply disturbing and revulting
>>220520719>Japanophilia is mainstream now.Only if you are a retarded zoomer, which im glad im not
>>220519747based and redpilled
>>220520720It definetely was one reason, having to make tons of thousands of different letters for presses wouldn't have been feasible in middle ages.It was much simpler with an alphabet. Also Europe had constant wars with different fractured powers and was never peaceful either.
>>220520824you live under a rockeven Trump out of every single country on the planet for both of his terms has shown Japan and its leaders the single most respect

>>220520855meant for>>220520767>>220520896Obviously not, but there were almost always wars in Europe just like there were in China. And some would say that the wars in Europe between different power drove innovation and competition and helped advancement.

I'd love to learn chinese, but that tonal thing seems so damn retarded. Also them being isolationist culture-wise is a bit discouraging.
The answer depends on your objectives.
>>220525643It's not that hard. There are even sites to specifically practice distinguishing the tones, like maorma.net. Minimal pair testing works.
>>220525742>The answer depends on your objectivesWhat does each language do?
>>220508463none, only english matters in business and academicif you want to do it for lulz then whichever you liket. multilingual (5)
>>220526117>What does each language do?A language don't “do” things in the sense of having a intrinsic purpose. Rather, it's a structured system pipo use to encode, transmit, and negotiate meaning within specific social and cognitive contexts and each language accomplishes the same fundamental functions yet it does so through distinct structural preferences and conventions that reflect the histories and communicative needs of its speech community. So, you know, it makes sense for timmy to complain about chinese pipo using a tonal phonology.

>>220510067>Chinese is still the best since at least it can give you job opportunitiesWrong. Do not underestimate the size of the Chinese population. There are many THOUSANDS of Ethnic Chinese that Chinese employers can trust, that can speak fluent Chinese + YOUR LANGUAGE way better than you can speak your language and Chinese.Only place where a Chinese employer may want a foreigner speaking Chinese is for language teaching and maybe fucking acting idk.
