I wish I had started learning Japanese one year ago. To catch up with my wasted time I will keep learning 80 words a day and 150 on days off. I only need 4500 more words to reach N1 level vocabulary.

Because I'm addicted to it and I get bored easily. In less than 4 months I learned 5500 words and 1900 kanji.

一体どうやって? 読書か、それともankiを使ってるのか
一日で20枚のフラッシュカードまでを覚えた後散々だったのに、80枚とは?

This is a hundred times more effective than playing with flashcards. Anki is only useful to know which words you're going to tackle with reverse translation.

Browsing random lists full of words? You might as well use a dictionary then, no? I mean seeing each of those words used in a sentence would make things a lot better, which at least a dictionary would provide you with and you're not gonna remember a word after having seen it once either.
>Anki is only useful to know which words you're going to tackle with reverse translation.
What? No anki is useful for remember things.

I'm mining eroge, 4chan, twitter and everything I find online

Nope trust me you're going to take 3 fucking years to learn japanese that way. I can already read vns with some assistance. It's definitely working otherwise I wouldn't be able to read what people say on 4chan and Twitter. Retention isn't 100% but by scrolling back I can read nearly all the words so I'd say it's around 90%. Reverse translation forces your mind to associate concepts to sounds and kanji. Also I can learn so many words quickly precisely because the readings and and the kanji are already in my head. It only took me 3 months and studying all day.

So do I, and I turn them into anki cards
>I can already read vns with some assistance.
That only took me a couple months too though, I'm not sure what you think is so special about this.

What do you mean 'scrolling back'? How do you know you'll still remember that word 5 months from now? How would you remember to 'scroll back' and check if you know that word? If learning 80 words a day means forgetting half of them in two weeks, then literally anyone can do it.
>Reverse translation forces your mind to associate concepts to sounds and kanji.
You can do that with anki cards too though, you can even make reverse cards, that enable you to read a word both ways, although sounds a bit like a waste of time.
Also how would you know "starting with" isn't 初めに instead of the much less used 皮切りに when you reverse translate it?
I'm just not really convinced, but then again, I don't entirely understand what it is you're doing either?

At some point I wanted to go all the way back to make sure all the words stuck but I realized it was a waste of time when I could let Anki suggest me which words to review. Today was a heavy day and I got around 60 cards but recently I always got 40 cards to review, everything else I could just skip because I knew how to read them.

Anki will remind you of the words you need to check. You won't forget half of them, maybe just 2 for each day.

It is, I only use Anki as a reminder, not as the main app. I let reverse translation do the heavy lifting and smash the words in my head until I can recall them.
>Also how would you know "starting with" isn't 初めに instead of the much less used 皮切りに when you reverse translate it?
That rarely happens but when it does I just look back at the japanese word and remind myself which variant to pick afterwards.
>I don't entirely understand what it is you're doing either?
I'm reinforcing my vocabulary by translating words from english to japanese. That way I can make sure I'm not only learning how to recognize words, but also how to recall and use them.

I used to learn 50 words on weekdays and 100 words on weekends and I never forgot lots of words.

I went back to a couple of months ago and did what you said. I can recall nearly all of these words except 2 or 3. They're animal names so their frequency isn't high either. If I went all the way back it would probably take me a couple of days to review all the missing words.

Okay so you do use anki.

I should probably really do that, I can understand a lot but I'm mostly confined to my room and have never spoken to a Japanese person before and my ability to translate the other way is very poor despite years of reading, fapping to voice works and watching youtube/anime. Although I don't see why I wouldn't just use anki for this as well instead of a chatbot.
I can instantly recognize 緑茶 as meaning green tea when I see it, but when somebody asked me to translate 'green tea' to Japanese, I noticed I actually couldn't answer out 'ryokucha'.

I don't want to practice yet because I'm keen on cramming vocab. When I'll get to 10k words I'll start watching anime and focus on practice. I just want to reach a point where I don't have to check a dictionary all the time but I'm quickly getting there. 5500 words already allow you to read a great deal of texts. I recommend writing a diary and using AI to fix your grammar. Usually I type the sentences in romaji and let ChatGPT fix them.
