>>220573854the joke's tempo would suffer if the country wasn't highlighted. if the reader has to consciously think for even 1/10th of a second what's happening in a panel it breaks the flow and ruins the joke. the reader would have to seek context from further panels to understand the first one, and the "joke" turns into a laborious puzzle instantly subtracting from the humor.and making a joke harder to understand for americans by referencing foreign geography doesn't make it funnier. putting knowledge barriers to otherwise solid joke out of spite is antithetical to comedy, the more people understand it the better the joke.
