You know what, I think I'm officially a bitter old man. I'm 32 years old (southern) Italian. But in the past ten years something changed. Suddenly, people are now uttering phrases like: "Suicide is a human right and the state should help mentally ill people kill themselves"; "anyone who's born here is Italian"; "trans women are women", etc. Italian teenagers scream "Porco Dio" (God's a swine) like it's a common interjection and they think they're funny, and not pathetic and embarrassing.What happened? Was it always an endless slippery slope? I don't think so: we used to have some very clear red lines such as biology that are now being dismantled in the name of individualism.Anyway the more time that passes, the more I hate this place and the people living here, the more I feel more alligned with the values of a third worlder living in the slums of Manila.I'm quite serious.
