Be glad that he died shitting his pants not even recognizing who his loved ones were, its the least he deserves for ruining the lives of millions around the globe and fucking up modern American society beyond repair.>inb4 ur a tranny libtardHe was responsible for mass immigration of illegals as well, giving corporations incentive to use foreign laborers and rapidly increasing deindustrialization in the Rust Belt. >>220644052the asylums got a Left-Right punch. It was the left who read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest, and decided that insane people who aren't actively trying to murder someone should only be in asylums if they volunteer to be there. The right wanted to save money, and cut social spending around the same time. They are both guilty. We currently spend a lot of money on homeless and insane people. It doesn't work very well, cause they have too many rights. It should be extremely draconian (for the good of the patients). Anyone found sleeping rough (not in a home or working car) should be committed. Involuntary detainment, forced relocation to areas with more available shelters and housing (usually less desirable areas), involuntary antipsychotic medication administration when needed, electro-shock therapy when beneficial, involuntary drug and alcohol rehab, etc.

>>220646090>It was the left who read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest, and decided that insane people who aren't actively trying to murder someone should only be in asylums if they volunteer to be thereVery disingenuous of you. Literally no leftist has ever advocated the murderously insane be left to roam the streets.Leftist criticisms of the mental health system usually stem from the standard of care being inadequate, neglectful, or abusive... to the point that it is actually worse than no care at all. The treatment is worse than the disease, in other words. This goes back to the good ol' days of early mental healthcare where they literally just chain the insane in a cell surrounded by their own waste, or kept them drugged until they were no more alert than a house plant. And I'm talking the majority who are not and never have been violent.Say what you will about leftist ideology but they have very consistently desired the government to help the mentally ill, for centuries. Most of the criticism from the left of government-run mental health facilities leading up to their liquidation stemmed from stories about several extremely disabled individuals (so disabled that they literally had to be tube fed) being inadvertently killed by inadequately-trained caretakers in government mental health facilities. Who fucked up in inserting the tube caused them to instead aspirate their food, which led to infection and death. Or immediate death by choking. There was also some concern about the abuse of psychiatry in communist countries, coupled with leftist distrust of the government in the aftermath of the Vietnam War and Watergate. But like most rightards, Reagan seized the valid calls for reform and instead dissolved the entire thing. NO self-proclaimed leftist or centrist wanted these people callously thrown out in the cold.
>>220647239nta, but what can you do about that?any facility with tons of people who are reliant on others for care will eventually end up like that, no matter what standards or oversight you put in place.see: nursing homeswhen you have some wagie who has to take care of people, they get jaded and sick and tired of it quickly and then take it out on the patients or just half ass their job leaving the patients to suffer, unless you have that 0.1% person who genuinely cares, but that's an extreme rarityso how can you prevent something when that's just human nature for people to act that way?it is sad, but I do not see a fix for it. no amount of reform will change that fundamental fact.

>>220648242>any facility with tons of people who are reliant on others for care will eventually end up like that, no matter what standards or oversight you put in place.Nonsense. With adequate money, training and oversight people can quite literally do anything, and do it well. The problem is society does not want to spend that money, and it sadly shows. There is a huge descrepency in nursing homes, and it can even vary wildly by shift. Even in "high-end" facilities.>t. former EMTThe problems are that money is not being spent well (if it is being spent in the first place), nurses are often overworked and underpaid, oversight is lax, and training is minimal. So called "high-end" facilities can be worse than mid-tier ones if the CEOs steal all the money. But the problem again is ultimately societal: people do not give enough of a shit about the elderly. We can definitely do it better: take children's health as an example. It has a plethora of money, a lot of very talented, highly-motivated people, constant training, and extensive oversight. No one wants a high-profile fuckup involving children. So the ability is there. People just do not care enough about the elderly. This is changing though: as bo*mers get older, their narcissism and entitlement means that they will not tolerate what they made their parents endure. Care is improving, the elderly have more of a voice, more money is being spent more judiciously; no one wants to spend their last years being bitchslapped and neglected by underpaid Guatamalan orderlies (who they voted for Trump all six times, who deported their abuela). That being said, and seeing what I've seen, I think that family should take care of family (within reason).Sadly with the predicted explosion of dementia cases (20% of the population! by some estimates), we might see such advances overridden by necessity. In that case, be glad for euthanasia. No one should die gibbering, unable to operate a doorknob or remember their name.

I know this is quintessential complaining old man shit. But I miss when crazies were all herded into one space and locked away from the public. It wasn't that long ago, and life was actually better because of it. But it was deemed inhumane and so now they're released into the wild where they're everyone's problem now.
