Okay, I'm a stupid Yankee-doodle fat American scumbag. And I've never travelled to Europe (yet). But there's this one phenomenon I've noticed on the internet that I've noticed: lack of air conditioning. Let me explain:Year by year, I hear lots and lots of complaints from Europe about how hot it gets in the summer. Meanwhile, here in America, I live in one of the hottest states in the south. Yes, it gets very hot here to the point you can literally fry an egg on the road pavement, but if you go indoors anywhere: Air conditioners are running at full blast to the point where you might have to put on a jacket to stay warm (I am not exaggerating). Most business have air conditioning and heat all year round, and only the poorest of the poor will NOT run their air conditioning in the summer.Meanwhile, on the internet, I read stories about people literally DYING in the summertime in Europe because it's too hot, and LOTS of complaints from MIDDLE CLASS people about how hot it is indoors as if they don't have air conditioning in the summer or refuse to turn it on.Do you people even have air conditioning at all?
>>220643504im installing one soon but im upper middle class by german standardsit;s not cheap there is this law that requires a license to install it and the assholes with license only install their own ACs that they charge a lot for
>>220643504Nigga, today’s high was 11C. I ain’t installing an electricity-guzzling shitbox just to feel a bit better for 2 weeks out of 52.
>Let me tell you about your country
>>220643504yurope used to never get hot enough to need itnow because of global warming they areits why they seethe about it so muchalso electricity is like 5x more expensive and they have less disposable income to spend on it
>>220643504air conditioning is not nearly as common in europe as in america, this is trueand frankly it's retarded. the greatest benefits of modern technology are the increases in personal comfort. people just feel a need to defend anything they associate with their "in-group"just as you'll have the dumbest americans imaginable defending shit like israel worship, you'll have the dumbest europeans imaginable defending shit like not having AC. they don't mean it, they just want to defend their in-group
Idk what southerners excuse is but it might possibly be a worthwhile investment for a month a year here. We heat system max here. One of these costs around $20k for hardware and work and will cut your power bill in half
>>220643778you know you can get those but they do both heating AND cooling
>>220643916Yeah but then you need hvac installed.
France/Italy/Spain definitely should have ACs
>>220643504yes about 80% of households here have ac
Europe's mostly at a higher latitude than the continental US so it gets milder summers.
>>220644879Tell that to meds who get cooked alive every summer
>>220644977they are accustomed to that and it doesn't bother them, tourist apartments all have ACs
>>220643504I have air conditioning, it keeps me cool in the summer mostly. I can switch it into heat mode too.
>>220645037>they are accustomedNo they're not.
>>220643504It's not so bad in Finland, but the summers are definitely getting hot enough that investing in AC might become sensible in the future.
>>220645070>go to sleep and take a break from work when it's too hothas worked for them for centuries
>>220644977>Tell that to meds who get cooked alive every summerThe Mediterranean is at the latitude of the continental US. Germany, Sweden, etc. are at the latitude of Canada so the sun angle is less direct and their summers aren't as hot.
>>220645244latitude mostly affects summer temperatures, winters are more a matter of continental versus oceanic climate which is why Europe's winters are mild for the latitude
>>220643504From what I've seen, air conditioning is definitely catching on over there. But it's mostly portable ACs and mini splits. They got fucked up windows so window ACs don't fit, and they can't or won't install central air.
>>220643731>As of early 2026, average US residential electricity prices are approximately 16.00 to 17.45 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh)>As of April 2026, electricity prices in Finland are moderate, with spot prices often falling around 3–4 c/kWh, though they can vary significantly by hour. Fixed-term contracts are widely available, typically ranging from 6 to 9 c/kWhyou don't know what you are talking about
we had these threads countless times, usually they are in summer thoughI should create a copy paste for americans but in a typical italian way I'm too lazy for that
>>220643504I mean at worst we have two weeks of >40 - 35 degrees. Then the people bitch and moan but for the rest of the year it is rather average with 35< to 20 degrees for the most part.>I read stories about people literally DYING in the summertime in Europe because it's too hotIsn't that the truth for every country? Old people and people with preexisting health problems are at a higher risk and then some of them croak. A few winters ago I also saw a homeless man who froze to death - the ambulance was there but all they did was cover him and call for the police.
They dont need it when it's cold
