Why are cats called pussies?
Why are roosters called cocks?

I was listening to the song rooster by alice in chains a few days ago and it just randomly occured to me that the animal rooster is called that because it is literally a creature that roosts. Absolutely mindblowing stuff. Right up there with the insect fly being named after the fact that it can fly.

coucou hibou
coucou is cuckoo hibou is hibou
hiboux and chouettes (owls) are the same, it's vernacular (usually hiboux are the ones with eyebrows)
coucou also means hi
coucou hibou hi hibou or cuckoo hibou
ok
>>220717446
impressive
>>
chouette also means cool as in awesome
une chose très chouette is a very nice thing
also owl obviously but I think it's because owls are cool that we say chouette
they are my favourite bird they are very cool (chouettes chouettes) (cool owls)
>>
hiboux are also my favourite bird since hiboux and chouettes are the same birds
my other favourite birds are the crow, the merle (blackbird), because they're also very cool
the hummingbird is very small
it's called hummingbird because it makes a humming buzzing sound when it flies
the blackbird is black and is a bird
I don't know why the crow is called crow or the raven is called a raven
maybe the crow because they scream CROOOOAAW but I still don't know why ravens are called that
they can speak and imitate language so maybe early ravens said something like RAVEN and people called them like that
also a lot of black birds (not the blackbird) aren't all black but we can't see all of their colors but other birds can because they have more eye chromosomes than humans

I think some guy saw the bird, said "Hibou !" and it was so funny everyone in the village started calling the bird a hibou.
It is a goofy sound to make, perhaps the expression was first used as kid's slang and then spread across IdF.

>ass
From the latin asinus. This is the original use of the term. "Ass" as in "arse"/"butt" is naval slang. Arse came before it and is from Old English.
>pussy
Low German "puss", for cat.
Was used as a term of comparison towards women, and became associated with vagina as "cunt" increased in vulgarity and the need for a middle ground word arose.
Low German also has "puse" as in vagina as well, but probably only indirectly related to the English word's evolution.
>cock
From old English. Used to refer to a male bird.
As in "penis" comes from pillicock, which is Scandinavian for "penis" (pilli) + "male bird" (cock). Basically, this meant "a male penis", which I know sounds odd, but probably had the connotation of "a very masculine penis". Eventually it was just shortened to 'cock', ironically losing the 'penis' part of it.
>>
>>220716327
Why do you name human genitalia after animals?

BTW, instead of pussies, we name them rabbits.
>>
>>220717431
Where is "Busseta"?
>>
>>220724580
Haven't looked into it, but think "pilli" might just be a diminutive. There's "pillesnopp" in Swedish for wiener/dick (plain "snopp" is similar but a bit less "wiener"), and "pilla" means to do fiddly stuff with the fingers.
