Sorry, we don't really have many songs from the 50s, as firstly it was a stalist period in Poland so there was not much freedom of speach and everything had to be socialist, secondly people were rebuilding the whole country so there wasn't much place left for the music.
So, there you have a few pre-war songs

technically Poland abandoned socialist realism in 1956 and there were jazz and rock-and-roll musicians in the Eastern bloc by the late 50s even in the USSR

hello greta :D

Most people would say 50s music was corny as fuck but in Europe at the time they were saying American music was too degenerate/sexual/Negro-fied so stuff like Schlager was pushed as a "wholesome" alternative.

That's true but I don't know any song from the 50s and I wager that most Poles can't name even one song from that period while that's not the case with songs before the war and from the 60s.

Especially the last two are up my alley. First one reminds me of Finnish tango. The second one sounds a bit like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mA5zI18ga8.

People were making fun of schlagers already in the 1940s here though.

There's been a lot of half-truths peddled by rock critics about rock and roll killing off the corny pop that dominated the early 50s. In reality it was more an evolution out of crooning/standards pop.

yet conventional pop in the 50s was very very Schlager-tier

Nice. Last one reminds me a bit of that singing style Gipsy Kings does in parts.

These kind of show the difference between American and European pop. Same song but Vera Lynn's version is much more mannered and classical and not as brash as Kay Starr's.

British music pre-Beatles was incredibly lame.

Pre-60s popular music is mostly ass
