Define 'cook'. I eat chicken, rice, and peas most nights for the protein. Cooking something elaborate for yourself is a complete waste of time, chopping vegetables and standing over a hob is not enjoyable. Cooking with and for others can be fun though.

The outside (the fat layer) cooks faster than the meaty center and dries out causing it to constrict. The thinner the cut, the more likely it is to happen. Just lower the heat and flip it more often.
