Define 'cook'. I eat chicken, rice, and peas most nights for the protein. Cooking something elaborate for yourself is a complete waste of time, chopping vegetables and standing over a hob is not enjoyable. Cooking with and for others can be fun though.

it's enjoyable when you have something nice to eat. but a lot of nice things take effort. for example, there is no real substitute for making proper stock.
what i do is put cream in everything and dark sauce soy in a lot of things. zero effort and tastes good.

>>
>>220821266
Indians don't use ovens at all, they cook literally everything on a hob.
>>
>>220821278
Didn't know that. I don't use hobs either though, the entire cooker is just a wasted appliance in my kitchen. If I weren't so cheap, I'd replace it with a tumble dryer.
>>
>>220820708
It’s just trial and error.
For steaks like in the op it’s obvious that the pan was nowhere near as hot as it should be.
It’s just being boiled in it’s own juice.
Need to sear that bitch

>>220818737

>>
>>220821235
Oven cooking is so easy, anon. You'd be foolish not to try. All you need to have is patience and time, and you cook anything with minimal effort.

Not only that, but a lot of cheap frozen meals need an oven and you're literally depriving yourself of that option.
>>

i toast bread, then put salami and cheese on it, then i microwave it to melt the cheese
this way i can toast the bread pretty thin, and i don't dirty the grill with fats from foods since only bread goes in there
overall, i'm happy

Been making canele for a bit

Working with wax is a pain in the ass but nobody near me sells this

Bordering buying more molds to make more to sell on the side in the rich people area of my town but scared of the amount of money and effort I’ll need to do it when I don’t have any savings
>>
>>220822583

>Not only that, but a lot of cheap frozen meals need an oven and you're literally depriving yourself of that option.
Eating cheap frozen ready meals sounds grim as fuck though. Surely that's one of the worst possible things you can put inside your body.

It happens if you cook the meat on high heat for too long without flipping it often on cuts with lots of surface fat. The outside (the fat layer) cooks faster than the meaty center and dries out causing it to constrict. The thinner the cut, the more likely it is to happen.
Just lower the heat and flip it more often.

You first heat the copper mold then season the molds with a 50/50 mixture of butter and beeswax

Butter for non stick and wax to make a crispy exterior along with making a floral aroma

It’s just really annoying to season 24 heated molds individually with melted buttter/beeswax

The wax act like oil but the second it hits anything cold it solidifies and a bitch to clean and good luck cleaning wax from the oven mitts and clothing
>>
>>220817939
I'm so sick of ESLs
>>
>>220823245
Yes but they don’t nearly get a deep dark crust as copper molds, they just don’t heat up as fast
>>
>>220817939
Those cuts are too thick and uneven, those are cuts for slow cooking so theyre just not cooking evenly. You'd be better off cutting them into small strips

I was a linecook for 10 years and still cook for myself regularly. Last night I made homemade margherita pizzas and tonight is gonna be fajitas
>>
>>220823359
I see. Perhaps you could use polished cast iron and preheat it? That way the thicker material maintains the heat profile of your oven. Copper seems expensive

Eh I enjoy having a drink and cooking for myself especially if its a big project while having some music or a podcast in the background. Anytime I make soups I mass produce it in two large pots and spend most of the afternoon drinking and cooking so I can eat off it for the rest of the week and freeze some of it. Its nice. Its the cold rainy season in my area so im gonna make a bunch of borscht tomorrow

Just tomato sauce/shakshouka
Picrel i marinated chicken into sour milk and mustard and i also tried pinneaple juice once
>>
>>220825011
I was disappointed by the food in Morocco after so many people hyped up tagines, but your bread was good.
>>
>>220825136
shakshouka is quite good. But it honestly doesn't surprise me that a Brit would be disappointed
>>
>>220825221
No he's right tagines suck unless it's just meat and potatoes which is what i have when im travelling mountains, the vegetables just cook quicker and burn
>>
>>220825221
It just didn't live up to expectations, it wasn't terrible but the tagine I had in Fes was just meatballs in tomato sauce.
>>
>>220817939
I've made spaghetti once and tacos a couple of times. I will cook eggs, bacon and grilled cheese or some combo of them. That's all I've never really tried to cook. Tried a few times to cook rice and beans because I've heard it's cheap and healthy but I always fuck it up.
That's all I've ever really tried to cook and I'm 30
>>
>>220823593
Maybe but for now I’m just using canele molds are specially made for canele

I’ve tried out aluminum and silicon molds before but like I said crust is ass

Could use a precast iron mold but nobody makes those

The only reason why I even started making it was due to my cheapness prohibiting me from flying to France and no good French bakery sells it here so I have no good idea if the ones I’m making are up to snuff with real french made stuff

I’m stuck making this for family gatherings ever since I unveiled them. Everybody seems to enjoy them but like I said it’s a pain in the butt to make

Once I made this and tasted canele I don’t really care for it

It has a nice vanilla and rum flavor but im not a sweets guy. Meat is better *no homo*

Here's the somewhat canonical french recipe, it's from the ferrandi pastry book.
Copper molds are the way they're done in france, but in the book they suggest beeswax but also vegetable wax maybe it's more manageable
