Ebonics is cool when I learned English I choose AAVE even though my british teacher freaked the fuck out over it. I had an online tutor who spoke AAVE like deep south style (he was from Mississippi). Now I can speak boring english or speak with soul, and I can speak AAVE better than my boring British teachers could.
