Did you go to uni? If so, did you move out for it? How did you manage to get by? I applied to a local uni and college in my area but if I chose to apply for some of the better ones outside of here I'd have been accepted. However, I'm not poor enough to have the government pay for me and my parents had already told me beforehand that they wouldn't pay for my stuff. Ended up going for the polytechnic college (which is pretty decent and well-respected) but still not as big as any of these top universities I could've gone to. Maybe I just have FOMO from seeing many of the people I studied with in the past going to them since they have someone to pay for it.
>>220856644yesyesschool fees are like 600 nok per semester and every norwegian has unconditional access to a loan with very favorable terms in order to pay for cost of living, 40% of which is converted to a scholarship if you pass your scheduled credits. you also don't accrue interest or being repaying the loan until you've earned your degree, and even then you're able to postpone payments for 36 months unconditionally, as well as having the entire loan paused/wiped if you are unemployed and/or disabled.
>>220856644No I did my degree online, I only went to uni to pass the major test and exams.I didn't move out but I worked at the same time to save up money.I got by fine because I didn't spend shit.I don't care about your life I just wanted to answer your questions since they concerned me.
>>220856644I go to uni currently. Most people, myself included, have part-time working student jobs and internships
>>220856814Interesting, and you even had to pay for tuition; the ones I'd get accepted in here are the public ones, that is, the best ones...>>220856923Fair. What degree did you get? Has it been useful? People over here give online degrees a lot of shit.
>>220856644i dropped out of high school at 16 and started working onlineand by working I mean making and selling assets, not actually employedin my lifetime I've held one part-time job for 3 months thats it
>>220856644My uni is in my city. I didn't have to move, just a 20 minute drive. I started with community college in my city because it's cheaper. After 2 years transferred to uni. I was able to get a scholarship that paid for everything. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get it
>>220856986It's administrative fees amounting to ~65 USD and is the same no matter which university you attend. The loan is also extremely low interest and you get a ton of tax advantages for holding debt.
>>220857045>I was able to get a scholarship that paid for everything. did the epstein foundation finance it?
>>220856644Yes. Yes. I already had my apartment about a 15 minute walk from campus. Rent was cheap (3490 SEK/around 320 euros per month) and I worked part time in a grocery store at the time so it was no problem. All education is free in Sweden so no tuition or anything like that. The only thing I struggled with was all the books but I manged to get hold of a lot of pirated copies and second hand stuff.
In the UK it is easy to afford it if you are from a poor family which I was, yes I moved away to the city my aunt was in.I didn't realise but I definitely fucked up big time, I got 3 A* grades (god tier, average at Oxford is just below this though u can easily get rejected for other reasons) but didn't apply to any better than 3A grades (great, but nothing particularly amazing) probably because home life/school/guidance was just pure shit.I regretted it and even now my biggest regret is not applying to the elite ones but in terms of financial and career success it hasn't held me back at all. I think long term it legit doesn't matter too much and a lot of the reasons people do well is because they're on average the smartest/most privileged people in the first place, but if you have potential to go and don't go for some BS reason it doesn't really matter.
>>220857045Cool, I wish we had this system here too. The college I go to is right across the street from the uni I actually applied (which isn't exactly one of the top ones but still one of Brazil's major unis) so if we had this system it would really be useful to me. Didn't apply to it though because they have a horrendous two-diploma program in which you have to take three years of nonsensical shit to follow a degree for more two years, and said nonsensical shit wouldn't make sense for my case since I'd apply for CS . They also have an intern course entrance test once you finish these three years, so if you don't pass it (they only let a very limited amount of students to them) you end up with basically a useless degree
>>220857143That makes me chill a bit. I don't know if people in other internet bubbles act the same but over here it's all about "if you're not going to a top university then you will never make it", but I feel like it's more about other factors too. I said that I ended up going for a decent polytechnic college but here in my area it is pretty much the best institution you can go to, people from here often get employed to the best companies in the region and such. Maybe I'm just taking shit people from other places in this country talk about online too seriously, idk.
>>220857332and by "here" I mean Brazilian internet, guess I put it too vaguely
>>220856644yesnoby having non protestant parents who just let me live with them>>220856969also this many just work on the side
>>220857332You should absolutely got to the best place possible just to make things easier for yourself but truly I do think the main reason better universities lead to better outcomes is because the students are on average smarter, harder working, better connected and more privileged. It's anecdotal but if I look at the most financially successful people I know educational background has varied wildly. On average the top unis will have the best outcomes, but even at the top unis the best outcomes here are pure shit even if they're actively moneymaxxing.
>>220857480Sorry I meant the average financial outcomes at the top unis are total shit even if you only look at the people chasing money. The outliers come from everywhere, though obviously the better unis produce more.
>>220856644Yes, in uni rnYes, I moved across to the midwest from California to go hereMy parents are pretty wealthy and pay my tuition for me, I work a part time job to pay for my rent + food costs like >>220856969 says. No internship for me thoughever because I'm a talentless chud.
>>220857480Guess it just makes networking and bettering yourself easier then, since the environment should have smarter people and such. I mean, I've heard before about plenty of pretty dumb people getting to the top university, not caring much about their studies and still making it big simply by knowing the type of people that they should be around, even though some were from poor/"middle class" families.>>220857641I've thought about interships too but they seem pretty hard to get into, plus I'm also kinda talentless so I don't know which I could get into or even what type of job. Maybe computer repair or something of the sort since I already have a technical HS diploma related to it, guess it could help.
